Friday 23 August 2019: Trettan/Kolbnitz - Seebachtal/Mallnitz (alt 1279 m): 33 km, completely foggy and cold, in the evening much better, 20ºC
We drove through Mallnitz to the Ankogelbahn cable car and went up together to the middle station to start hiking there, but Julia saw the fog and decided not to go along, instead took the 2nd cable car and went further up and waited to go with the first cable car back down. Volker did the hike from the middle station to the Hannover Hütte (5h30, ascent 760 m, 5,5 km) while Julia waited cosily in the camper. After lunch we drove to Billa for grocery shopping. Then we dropped by at the visitor centre of the Hohe Tauern National Park (free with the Kärnten Card, 7,5€/pax). Walk along the water mills just across the street and back to our parking at the Ankogelbahn. We saw a deer before dark. N47º0'54" E13º11'8"
Saturday 24 August 2019: Seebachtal and Dösental near Mallnitz - Mallnitz-Overvellach Bahnhof (alt 1178 m): 13 km, pretty good weather 21ºC
After a good quite night we walked through the Seebachtal up to the Schwussnerhütte along a very nice trail (8,5 km, 110 m ascent, 3 hours) along the Seebach. At the Schwussnerhütte there was a gathering for old-timer tractors, special local music with beer stand. Back home, we drove up to the Dösental -that was an adventurous drive up a narrow street with steep slopes! Walk up the Blockgletscherweg Dösental for about 2,5 km passing the Konradlacke lake (5,4 km, 1h20, 210 m ascent). Blockgletscher mean Rock glacier: Rock glaciers are distinctive geomorphological landforms, consisting either of angular rock debris frozen in interstitial ice, former "true" glaciers overlain by a layer of talus, or something in-between (Wikipedia). On our way back we decided to stay overnight at the park & ride parking across the Mallnitz Autoschleuse Tauernbahn (the one we took a few days ago). N46º58'51" E13º10'30"
Sunday 25 August 2019: Mallnitz - Groppenstein and Ragga Gorge - Afritzer See (alt 750 m): 86 km, foggy in the high mountains, beautiful at Afritz See 26ºC
Drive to the Groppensteinschlucht (free with our Kärnten Card, 4,75 km, 1h30, 200 m ascent). Then to the Raggaschlucht (also free of charge with our Kärnten Card, 3,5 km, 250 m ascent, 1h15'). Drive by at the Millstätter See and settled at the Glinzner Fischerhof Camping (we paid 25€/night with electricity, we like this place, especially that we could stay directly along the lake). A swim in the lake was our first activity here. N46º44'17" E13º46'15"
Monday 26 August 2019: Afritzer See: 26ºC nice weather sunny and sometimes cloudy
Today was a efficient and relaxing day. We did all the laundry, Volker tried to repair the water leak he found in the garage, and we did a bicycle tour to the Feld am See at the lake Feldsee (about 12 km). Lunch and dinner outside. It's lovely to sit here and just watch. Julia went before dinner for a good swim in the Afritzer See (the water is ± 21ºC).
Tuesday 27 August 2019: Afritzer See - Villach: 20 km, 28ºC sunny
We parked at the parking Villach/Drauboden (free of charge) and took a trottinete and drove to the bridge where the information centre is (2,05 for 7 minutes drive each). Walk through the pedestrian street named "Hauptplatz" (although pretty long for just a "square"). There are many cafés and bars, also other nice squares and pedestrian streets. We had lunch at the BrVillach Brauerei (45€), Julia bought a pair of nice Rieker sandals and then we walked home. After about 2 hours, Julia went to the Interspar not so far away where there was also a Hervis. Julia had a big dinner salad for 1/2 price (after 16:00 everything was 1/2 pric2, but they were also closing. In the we went to the open air kino cinema (Kinosommer, 7€/pax) and saw for the second time Bohemian Rhapsody (Julia is very impressed by the actor Rami Malek who really made a good job playing Freddy Mercury). Back home and dodo. N46º37'02" E13º50'02"
