17.04.09: Loulé – Alvor (16 ºC rainy)

Drive from Loulé to Alvor. Overnight stay at the parking next to the fishermen’s huts. The other place where we used to stay next to the beach is closed with trucks coming all the time with sand loads to fill up the beach further East. And the parking lot with the palm trees which is located next to the Sports Center is completely flooded.

17.04.09: Loulé – Alvor (16 ºC regnerisch)

Fahrt von Loulé nach Alvor. Übernachtung auf dem Parkplatz neben den Fisherhütten. Der Stellplatz an einem Weg entlang dem Strand ist unpassierbar, da ständig Riesen-LKWs mit Sandladungen vorbei fahren. Weiter östlich wird der Strand aufgefüllt. Der andere Parkplatz mit den Palmen, der an dem Sportplatz ist, war komplett überflutet.

18.04.09: Alvor – Carrapateira – Boca do Rio (21 ºC, unsteady)

Short bicycle tour through Alvor to see if there is any chance of a passage from town to the railway station of Mexilhoeira Grande. Unfortunately, there is no path where we could have passed with our bicycles. Drive to Carrapateira where Volker took his bicycle and drove the East part of the “Trilho das Marés” from the book “Guia de Percursos Pedestres”. Then we drove to “Boca do Rio” between Salema and Burgau, a beautiful place to stay direct on the seaside – GPS: N 37º 03’59” W 8º 48’ 31”. Relaxing and a little walk up the cliffs up to the “Forte da Almádena” towards Burgau made up this quiet day.

18.04.09: Alvor – Carrapateira – Boca do Rio (21 ºC wechselhaft)

Kurze Fahrradtour durch Alvor, um zu sehen, ob man von der Wasserfront irgendwie doch durch die Salinen bis zum Hauptbahnhof Mexilhoeira Grande kommt. Wir mussten jedoch feststellen, dass das nicht mit dem Fahrrad geht. Fahrt nach Carrapateira, wo Volker mit seinem Fahrrad das östliche Teil des Wanderweges „Trilho das Marés“ aus dem Buch „Guia de Percursos Pedestres“ gefahren ist. Dann sind wir zur „Boca do Rio“ gefahren, das zwischen Salema und Burgau wunderschön direkt am Meer liegt – GPS N 37º 03’ 59” W 8º 48’ 31”. Wir sind noch den Hügel Richtung Burgau bis zur Burg „Forte de Almádena” gelaufen und haben uns schön ausgerucht.

19.04.09: Boca do Rio – Cabo São Vicente (21 ºC sunny)

Today we are going to finish our bicycle tour on the Ecovia! Our last part goes from Figueira to Cabo São Vicente at Sagres. We will then have biked from the Spanish border at Vila Real de Santo António through all the Algarve up to the upmost Western point at Cabo São Vicente. As we want to celebrate this exploit with a good bottle of Champagne, we have to organize this very accurately: We will drop the bikes at Figueira and drive to Cabo São Vicente. Jos will fetch us at Cabo São Vicente and drive to Figueira where he will leave his van. When we arrive in Cabo São Vicente we will celebrate with good Champagne!

19.04.09: Boca do Rio – Cabo São Vicente (21 ºC sonnig)

Heute wollen wir die letzte Etape des Abenteuers Ecovia schaffen. Das letzte Stück, was wir noch schaffen müssen, geht von Figueira bis Cabo São Vicente in Sagres. Dann werden wir, sage und schreibe, die ganze Algarve geradelt sein: von der spanischen Grenze bei Vila Real de Santo António bis zum westerlichsten Punkt bei Cabo São Vicente. Da wir das im Wohni mit einem guten Champagner feiern wollen, muss das genau organisiert werden: Wir werden die Fahrräder in Figueira absetzen, mit dem Wohni nach Cabo São Vicente fahren. Dort holt uns Jos ab und fährt uns nach Figueira. Wenn wir dann in Cabo São Vicente ankommen, wollen wir mit einem schönem Champagner anstoßen.

Our exploit: We cycled the whole Ecovia all the way from Vila Real de Santo António on the Spanish boarder to Cabo São Vicente on the Western Coast on the Algarve! / Unser Bravurstück: Wir sind die gesamte Ecovia von Vila Real de Santo António an der spanischen Grenze bis Cabo São Vicente an der Westküste der Algarve geradelt!
